Finite verb, subject and verbal predicate

The finite verb is the heart of every Dutch sentence. Once you find it, the subject and the verbal predicate follow, and spelling verbs stops being guesswork.

Year 6 of primary and 1st stage of secondary school11 to 15 yearsDraft: Not yet checked by a Dutch teacher.

Why

Gisteren heeft Noor haar fiets gerepareerd. Which word changes when you put the sentence in the past tense?

Gisteren had Noor haar fiets gerepareerd. Only heeft changed: it became had. That word is the finite verb (persoonsvorm): the heart of the sentence.

The finite verb is also the verb whose spelling you need to know: wordt or word, vindt or vind. If you can find the finite verb and the subject, you stop making those mistakes.
