About Zin

Language that adds up.

Zin is an app for learning Dutch the way you need it at school, from year 5 to year 10, for pupils, parents who want to help, and teachers.

Why Zin

Nobody has to think they are bad at language. If you hesitate between a d and a t, you are usually missing one rule, not talent. Zin shows the rule, makes it visible in a picture and lets you practise, with the explanation you need at every mistake.

Four blocks, always in the same order

Why, See it, Get it, Do it. Then the pitfalls, where you meet it in real life and sometimes a bit of history. Every topic shows what you need to know first and what comes next, so you see the thread through the subject.

Exercises that never run out

Every exercise is built from large word lists: hundreds of verbs and nouns, with their forms according to the Woordenlijst. Your answer is checked letter by letter, and with a mistake you see which rule is behind it. Thousands of exercises per topic are tested automatically.

About Dutch, in four languages

The exercises are always about Dutch. The explanations are also in French, German and English: for parents who speak another language, and for newcomers who are still learning Dutch, such as in an OKAN reception class.

Who makes Zin

Zin is made by Neal Van de Velde (nealvdv), who also made Draad, Ruit and Spoor. Questions, mistakes or ideas are always welcome.

Calm and private

No ads, no tracking, no required account, no streaks or notifications that make you feel guilty. What you can do is only kept on your own device.

What does Draft mean?

A topic labelled Draft is carefully written according to the Woordenlijst and Taaladvies, but not yet checked by a Dutch teacher. The label only disappears after that check. If you see a mistake, let us know.

Draft: Not yet checked by a Dutch teacher.0/16of the 16 topics have been checked. Checking by teachers is under way.

Zin and Kaft

Zin is part of Kaft, a family of learning apps with its own app for each subject. Part of Zin is free, for the rest we ask a fair price. That keeps Zin free of ads and tracking.

What does Zin cost?

The learning path and the first 3 topics are free. For all of Zin, you choose one of these plans:

  • All of Zin€4 per month · €36 per year
  • Kaft bundle, all apps€8 per month · €69 per year

There is also a family plan, a school plan and a free social rate.

You sign in and pay on Kaft. After that, one click opens every topic here.

The Kaft family

Each app has its own subject and its own face, with the same way of working: understanding over cramming, calm and without ads.

Where we come from

Zin was made from a Christian conviction: every child is valuable, including those who find language hard, and those who are learning Dutch as a second language. The content itself is ordinary, neutral Dutch school material. What you notice is the way it is done: patient, honest and without guilt.

Spotted a mistake?

A few words are enough. We will check and fix it.
