Prepositions and fixed combinations
In Dutch you wacht op, denkt aan and bent bang voor. Many verbs and adjectives come with a fixed preposition, and the easiest way is to learn each pair as one block.
Why
Do you wait op the bus, voor the bus or naar the bus? And why?
You wait op the bus. There is no logical reason for it: it is a fixed combination. In French you say attendre le bus, without a preposition, and in English wait for the bus.
That is why prepositions are hard for anyone who knows another language. The good news: if you learn the combination as one block, you stop making the mistake.
